Victorian Splendor
September 01, 2007
November 30, 2009
Beginning in 1870 until the early 1900's, the Ramapo Valley was the site of many estates of wealthy industrialists from New York City. Alfred B. Darling created the community of Darlington. Theodore Havemeyer established Mountain Side Farm a 3000 acre model dairy farm with a barn for 300 cows. John O. Donner, another sugar refiner, established a horse breeding farm. In the next generation, Clarence Chapman, Charles Kohler and George Crocker continued the trend and built spacious homes. This exhibit contains many vintage photographs as well as displays about Victorian furniture and jewelry.
