OUR LECTURES
THE DARLINGTON SCHOOL HOUSE
May 20, 2010
Have you ever wondered about the Darlington Schoolhouse at the corner of Ramapo Valley Road and Darlington Avenue? In 2007 Mahwah and the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference became joint owners of the schoolhouse and restoration plans are in the works. The first part of this lecture will explore the history and architecture of this 1891 historic building. The second part of this lecture will give the history of the NJ Trail Conference. Founded in 1920 the NY-NJ Trail Conference partnered with the government and private landowners to create, protect, and maintain a network of 1700 miles of hiking trails in the metropolitan area. The schoolhouse will be open for tours prior to the lecture.
Place: Immaculate Conception School
Time: 7:30 p.m. School house tours at 7:00 p.m.
